SCSI CLI for ASPI product overview
The SCSI CLI for ASPI product allows the user to execute the SCSI commands
from the command prompt via the ASPI on the Windows operating system platforms.
The product is optimized for Tape Drive and Media Changer devices.
The product is available in both End User and OEM versions.
Supported platforms
The following Windows operating system platforms are supported:
- Windows 98SE
- Windows ME
- Windows 2000
- Windows XP 32-bit
- Windows Server 2003 32-bit
- Windows Vista 32-bit
- Windows 7 32-bit
System requirements
Hardware requirements:
- 200 MHZ or faster Inter Pentium TM or equivalent CPU.
- 128 MB RAM. The optimal size of RAM depends on the installed Windows operating system.
- 10GB hard disk. The optimal size of hard disk depends on the installed Windows operating system.
- 15" or greater SVGA display.
- Standard keyboard and mouse.
- One or more host bus adapters.
Software requirements:
- Supported Windows operating system with the necessary service pack installed.
- Internet Explorer version 5.0 or higher.
- Adaptec ASPI software package version 4.71 or higher.
NOTE: It is recommended to install all system patches from Windows Update site.
Command line interface
Each executable module is implemented as a console application that accepts
the number of arguments in the command line. The command line arguments
allow user to specify the SCSI device and the SCSI command parameters.

SCSI bus rescanning
User can rescan the SCSI buses of the host bust adapters using the command line utility. During the rescanning the ASPI subsystem updates the list of the detected devices.
SCSI device enumeration
User can enumerate the detected SCSI devices using the command line utility. The utility prints in the console window the list of the detected devices.
Showing product information
User can view the information about the installed SCSI CLI for ASPI product and ASPI software package using the command line utility. The utility prints in the console window the version number and the licensing information for SCSI CLI for ASPI product. For ASPI software package the utility prints the version number of the package.
SCSI-3 support
The product supports the SCSI commands and the device parameters as described in the SCSI-3 standards documents. The implementation is based on the following standards documents.
- SCSI Architecture Model - 3 (SAM-3)
- SCSI Primary Commands - 3 (SPC-3)
- SCSI Stream Commands - 3 (SSC-3)
- SCSI Media Changer Commands - 3 (SMC-3)
Some features from the latest standards documents are also implemented. The product supports mandatory SCSI commands and device parameters, and some optional commands and device parameters.

The following commands from the sequential access device (tape drive) command set are supported.

Media changer device commands and parameters support
The following commands from the media changer command set are supported.
